How to Write a CV for the Netherlands (2026)

Dutch CVs are direct, factual, and increasingly photo-free. The Netherlands values substance over style — your CV should reflect that.

Photo: Declining

The trend in the Netherlands is moving away from CV photos. Many Dutch employers and recruiters now prefer CVs without photos to reduce unconscious bias. If you include one, keep it professional. If in doubt, leave it out.

Direct Communication Style

The Dutch value directness. Don’t be vague or modest — state your achievements clearly and specifically. "Increased team productivity by 30%" is better than "Contributed to team improvement."

Length: 1–2 Pages

One page for early-career, two pages for experienced professionals. Dutch recruiters appreciate conciseness.

Language Skills

The Netherlands is highly multilingual. List your languages with CEFR levels. Dutch employers particularly value English fluency — most business is conducted in English, especially in tech, finance, and Amsterdam-based companies.

BSN Number

Never include your BSN (citizen service number) on your CV. This is sensitive personal data protected under Dutch privacy law.
